A split home comfort system has three parts: an indoor unit, such as a furnace or air handler, an outdoor unit and an evaporator coil. An air conditioner is the outdoor unit that cools the air by sending the Freon back and forth from the evaporator coil. The furnace is the indoor unit that circulates the air through the house and the evaporator coil is located either above or beside the furnace depending on its application. Indoor and outdoor units are designed to work together. When the air conditioner is properly matched with a furnace or air handler, you get maximum efficiency and longer system life.
